Piz Palu, 12,808ft (3905m) lies in the Bernina Alps, in eastern Switzerland. This photo was taken from the Upper Pers Glacier at 4.30am as the rising sun touched the tops of its three peaks. We had left the Diavolezza Hut a little earlier to traverse the three summits. The Diavolezza Hut is now accessible by cable-car, and is a popular outing from Pontresina, as it provides spectacular views of Piz Palu and Piz Bernina, the highest in the group.
