Mont Blanc, in the French Haute-Savoie Alps, with a height of 4807m. (15,772ft), used to be regarded as the highest mountain in Europe. But times have changed and so has Europe, and Mount Elbrus in Russia now carries that honour. This picture was taken from the top of the Aiguille du Midi, accessible by cable-car from Chamonix, and shows from L to R: Grand Capucin (distant dark wedge), Mont Blanc de Tacul, Mont Maudit cutting across the dome of Mont Blanc, the white Dome du Gouter, and the distant Aiguille du Gouter.  The climbers are on the south ridge of the Aiguille du Midi.
