"The long, lonely climb to heaven."

Image no. MT17 This ridge, rising from Beinn Bhan to Sgurr Dearg, has always appealed to me aesthetically. The summit of Sgurr Dearg (1024m/3360ft) represents heaven, and the solitary climber at the bottom of the ridge is toiling towards it. These hills are part of the Ben Vair group overlooking Ballachulish at the mouth of Loch Leven in western Scotland. There is a third summit in the group, Sgurr Dhonuill (Donald's peak, 1001m), and the circuit of all three makes a great outing. |
