Image no. LE12X The Weisshorn (4505m, 14,781ft) is on of the most impressive-looking mountains in the Zermatt area, even allowing for its near neighbour, the Matterhorn. The simple white wedge shape that it presents when viewed from the south has a startling beauty. The picture was taken from the col to the west of the Mettelhorn, at an altitude of about 3150m (10,335ft). The ice-axe and dress-code of my fellow-climber indicate the age of the photo (1955). |
