Pix Bernina,at 4049m (13,285ft) is the highest summit in the Bernina Alps in eastern Switzerland. The Sudgrat (or 'south ridge') was narrow enough to remind me of the expression "on one side a vertical drop to infinity, and on the other side an even greater precipice." The photo of Piz Screscen (also in this group) was taken from this same point, but in the directly opposite direction. The weather was excellent, and the eleven hours of ascent and descent provided a day of "pure brilliance."
