Image no. MT02 The long ridge of the Cuillin Hills, on the Isle of Skye, provides challenging scrambling and rock-climbing, with airy traverses on many parts of the ridge. The rock is gabbro, giving good friction, but a lot of loose rock adds to the dangers. This picture, taken from a summit above Glen Shiel, shows the full line of the main ridge. The water visible in the centre is the Sound of Sleat, which separates Skye from the mainland. |
