Despite its name, Lochnagar is a mountain, not a loch, and rises behind the royal castle of Balmoral in the north of Scotland.  Lochnagar's flat summit plateau is edged on the NE by steep cliffs, permitting large cornices to develop in spring. It is a statement of the obvious to say that it is unwise to walk out on to these overhangs, but a protruding rock provided reassurance for the photo, which was taken at the end of April, quite late for cornices of this size.
