The capital of Indian Kashmir, Srinigar, lies on the shore of Dahl Lake. The lake is mainly renowned for the houseboats which adorn its banks near the town, and which provided a healthy tourist industry for the area - until 1989. I often wonder what has become of them, whether they have fallen into disrepair, and whether the business can ever be regenerated. This corner of the lake is devoted to water-lilies.
